How to translate transitory? Wie übersetzt man transitorisch? Elmathaf Elrahal Part 3

In 2017 we met with Mahmoud and Ali the two archeologists in Cairo to discuss how to set up the project. We met in the Cairo library for several days. We talked about how we established the Transitory Museum as a digital museum that is appearing in Pfyn and in other art spaces in different forms and how the idea of having a museum inspired the citizens of Pfyn.

Elmathaf Elrahal (the itinerant museum) Part 2

The inspiration of the tombs of Meir, the mirror in time to our own profession as artists lead our way for the new project. The first idea that popped into our mind was to open a branch of the Transitory Museum at Pfyn in Asyut. The Louvre was about to open a branch in Abu Dhabi at that time, so why shouldn’t the Transitory Museum at Pfyn do the same in Asyut? Das Wandermuseum – El mathaf Elrahal (the itinerant museum)

2013 Pro Helvetia awarded us with a residency in Cairo/Egypt. The political situation was unstable during that time and we signed the contract on the day when President Mursi resigned. It took until autumn 2014 that we could travel to Egypt for a research travel and plan a new project. And it was in November 2014 that we traveled to Asyut for the first time. We met two archeologists from Asyut, Mahmoud Mohamed Ali and Ali Mahfoz and they enabled us to visit archeological sites in the region. One of those places were the tombs of Meere.
