Demokratische Kunstwochen – democratic art weeks

–please scroll down for english version–

Social Practice oder Relational Aesthetics / Relational Art sind unter anderem von Nicolas Bourriaud geprägte Bezeichnungen für Kunstwerke, die ein soziales Environment erzeugen und sowohl Künstler als auch das Publikum als Gemeinschaften verstehen, die in intersubjektiven Begegnungen kollektiv Bedeutung gestalten: “the role of artworks is no longer to form imaginary and utopian realities, but to actually be ways of living and models of action within the existing real, whatever scale chosen by the artist.”

Democratic Art Weeks

In 2011 zeitgarten.ch and the Transitory Museum Pfyn invite ten artists and artistic duos to Pfyn to develop artistic projects with the citizens.

Spread over the year the artists will each live and work in Pfyn for at least two weeks and plan and realise an art project with private persons, clubs or institutions during this time. Important for us is that these projects are realised together with the citizens and are not only exclusive artistic works.

Social Practice or Relational Aesthetics / Relational Art are, amongst others, terms coined by Nicolas Bourriaud for works of art that create a social environment and consider artists as well as the audience as communities collectively creating meanings in intersubjective encounters: „the role of artworks is no longer to form imaginary and utopian realities, but to actually be ways of living and models of action within the existing real, whatever scale chosen by the artist.“

The selection of the requested artists was made by us on the basis of their work with projects that evolve in connection with processes of the public space/participation of the public and in a social context, in a broader sense of the terms Social Practice and Relational Aesthetics.
